Former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Adwoa Safo, sustained a gunshot injury during an incident at her late father’s residence in Kwabenya on Sunday, prompting a police investigation and the arrest of six private security guards.
According to the Accra Regional Police Command, Safo reported to the Kwabenya Police Station after suffering a gunshot wound to her left ear. She also presented her Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which showed visible gunshot damage.
Police confirmed that she has received medical attention and is in stable condition. Her vehicle has been retained for forensic examination as part of ongoing investigations.
In a statement, the police said officers responded to a distress call at the residence, where a ceremony was reportedly taking place. Preliminary investigations indicate that Safo arrived at the property seeking entry but was allegedly denied access.
Police allege that during the confrontation that followed, armed security personnel opened fire, resulting in her injury and damage to her vehicle.
Six private security guards were arrested at the scene. A search conducted by officers led to the recovery of several weapons, including five pump-action guns, a pistol loaded with ammunition, additional magazines, and communication equipment.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to identify and apprehend other individuals who may be connected to the incident.
Reports indicate that the shooting occurred amid an ongoing dispute over the leadership succession of the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo.
According to information provided to investigators, Adwoa Safo had gone to the residence after learning that an installation ceremony involving her brother was taking place despite an existing court injunction.
However, the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission has disputed claims that a shooting occurred. In a statement, the organization maintained that Safo drove her vehicle into the entrance gates and described reports of a shooting as inaccurate.
The police, however, have confirmed the gunshot injury, damage to Safo’s vehicle, and the recovery of firearms from the scene.
No charges have yet been announced beyond the arrest of the six security guards, and authorities have not identified who fired the shots. The underlying succession dispute remains before the courts.
