President John Dramani Mahama has directed the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to absorb GH¢2 on every litre of diesel to help reduce the impact of recent fuel price increases.
The move is expected to ease the financial pressure on Ghanaians, especially commercial drivers and businesses that rely heavily on diesel.
The reduction is scheduled to take effect on Tuesday, 4 August 2026.
The decision follows recent increases in fuel prices by oil marketing companies. The price hikes have been linked mainly to rising global crude oil prices and changes in the international market for refined petroleum products.
Diesel prices have risen sharply, raising concerns that transport fares, food prices and the cost of doing business could also increase.
The government says it will continue to monitor the global energy market and introduce further measures when necessary to protect consumers and support Ghana’s economic recovery.
