A six-bedroom residential building was completely destroyed by fire at Aboabo near the Post Office in Kumasi on Sunday, June 21, despite the swift response of firefighters.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a distress call was received at approximately 2:00 PM, prompting an immediate response from personnel at the Asokore Mampong Fire Station. The team, led by ASTNO Richard Brown and supported by firefighters from the KNUST Fire Station, arrived at the scene to find the house fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters worked quickly to bring the blaze under control by 3:36 PM before completely extinguishing it at 4:46 PM.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were recorded during the incident.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have started from a refrigerator socket, although officials say a full investigation is underway to establish the exact cause.
While the six-bedroom chamber-and-hall self-contained building and all its contents were destroyed, firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading to nearby structures. Their timely intervention helped save adjoining buildings and valuable property within the same compound.
The GNFS has urged residents to regularly inspect electrical appliances and wiring systems to reduce the risk of domestic fires.
