Prosecutors have portrayed Lil Durk as being driven by revenge as his federal murder-for-hire trial gets underway in Los Angeles.
The Chicago rapper, whose real name is Durk Banks, is accused of being involved in an alleged plot targeting Quando Rondo in 2022. Rondo survived the shooting, but his cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, was killed.
According to prosecutors, the alleged attack was connected to the 2020 killing of King Von, a close friend and associate of Lil Durk. They claim the rapper wanted revenge and helped facilitate the alleged plot.
Durk’s defense strongly disputes the government’s allegations. His attorneys argue that Durk was not responsible for organizing the shooting and are pointing to Kavon “OTF Vonnie” Grant as the person who allegedly arranged the operation.
The trial is also expected to examine communications, witness testimony and portions of Lil Durk’s music that prosecutors say could support their case.
Durk has pleaded not guilty and remains presumed innocent unless prosecutors prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
The trial is expected to continue as both sides present evidence and call witnesses.
