Jay-Z is making another move in his ongoing legal battle with Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, asking a California appeals court to reconsider a decision that stopped his extortion and defamation case from moving forward.

The latest development comes after a major change involving the woman who previously accused Jay-Z of sexual assault. The woman recently withdrew her allegations against the rapper and said she had been mistaken in identifying him. Her new attorney also stated that she had never met Jay-Z and apologized to the rapper and his family.

Jay-Z now believes the recantation changes the legal picture.

According to court documents reported by TMZ, his legal team is describing the woman’s new statement as important evidence that should allow his claims against Buzbee to be examined further.

The case has a complicated history. The woman originally filed a lawsuit accusing Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting her when she was a minor. Jay-Z strongly denied the allegations from the beginning.

The lawsuit against Jay-Z was later dismissed. He then pursued legal action against Buzbee, Buzbee’s law firm and the woman, accusing them of wrongdoing connected to the allegations.

A lower court dismissed Jay-Z’s case, and an appeals court later declined to revive it. Now, the hip-hop mogul wants the appeals court to reconsider that decision following the woman’s recantation.

Jay-Z is not immediately asking for a full trial. His latest filing reportedly asks for limited discovery, a legal process that could allow his lawyers to gather more information about how the original allegations were handled. If that process produces evidence supporting his claims, he wants the case to continue.

TMZ reported that Buzbee had not responded to its request for comment on the latest filing at the time of publication.

For Jay-Z, the fight is clearly not finished. With the original accuser now changing her account, his lawyers are hoping the new development will convince the court to take another look at the case.
