The Premier League’s new season has already produced a standout individual performance, and Mamadou Sangaré is our first Player of the Week.
The Brentford midfielder played a major role in his team’s impressive 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, producing two assists on his Premier League debut.
A dream Premier League debut
Sangaré could hardly have asked for a better introduction to English top-flight football.
From the opening stages of the match, Brentford played with intensity and confidence. Sangaré was heavily involved as the home side took control and eventually secured a convincing victory.
His two assists were particularly important because they helped Brentford turn their dominance into goals.
The performance earned him Player of the Match recognition and immediately put his name on the radar of Premier League supporters.
Brentford’s new star?
It is obviously too early to make major conclusions after just one match.
However, Sangaré’s debut showed several qualities that could make him an important player for Brentford this season.
He looked comfortable in possession, worked hard without the ball and showed the confidence to influence the game in the final third.
Most importantly, he appeared to understand exactly what Brentford needed from him.
Tottenham unable to cope
While Brentford deserve enormous credit, Tottenham’s performance also contributed to the result.
Spurs struggled to match Brentford’s physical intensity and organisation. Their attack produced little, while Brentford repeatedly found space and opportunities.
Tottenham’s manager Roberto De Zerbi admitted afterwards that his team lacked cohesion and fight.
For Sangaré, that made the occasion even more memorable.
Can Sangaré maintain this level?
The biggest challenge now is consistency.
Opponents will study his performance and look for ways to limit his influence. Brentford will also need to manage expectations surrounding a player who has suddenly attracted considerable attention.
But if Sangaré can reproduce anything close to this level regularly, Brentford may have discovered one of the exciting players to watch during the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.
Why he is our Player of the Week
There were several impressive individual performances during the opening weekend, but Sangaré’s combination of a winning performance, two assists and a standout debut makes him a natural choice.
He did not simply participate in Brentford’s victory — he helped create it.
Mamadou Sangaré is our first Player of the Week.
And if this debut is anything to go by, football fans may be hearing his name a lot more this season.
