Chilean giants Colo Colo have reached an agreement to sign Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha following his impressive performances at the World Cup.
Club president Anibal Mosa confirmed on Friday that the 40-year-old free agent is expected to travel to Chile shortly to complete a medical examination before being officially presented at the Estadio Monumental.
“Vozinha will be a Colo Colo player. In the coming days, he will travel to Chile, undergo the usual medical examinations and then be presented here at the Estadio Monumental,” Mosa told reporters ahead of the club’s league match against Deportes Limache.
Although the transfer has not yet been formally completed, Colo Colo appeared to hint at the goalkeeper’s arrival on social media by sharing an image that seemingly featured his distinctive curly hairstyle.
Mosa said Vozinha’s performances at the World Cup proved that he deserved the opportunity to join the Chilean club. He also acknowledged that the experienced goalkeeper’s popularity could provide commercial and marketing benefits for Colo Colo.
Vozinha entered the tournament as a free agent after leaving Portuguese second-division club Chaves.
He went on to become one of the competition’s surprise stars, helping World Cup debutants Cape Verde hold eventual champions Spain to a goalless draw.
Cape Verde also forced eventual runners-up Argentina into extra time during their last-32 encounter.
Vozinha’s displays earned him a place in FIFA’s fan-selected World Cup dream team, further raising his profile and attracting the attention of Colo Colo.
The goalkeeper’s move will become official once he successfully completes his medical examination in Chile.
