Ghanaian sprinter Benjamin Azamati has made a strong start at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Azamati won his men’s 100-metre heat on Monday after crossing the finish line in a season-best time of 10.00 seconds. His impressive performance secured him a place in the semifinals.

The Ghanaian athlete said he expects the next round to be more difficult but believes he is ready for the challenge.

Azamati is one of Ghana’s leading medal hopes at the competition. Abdul Rasheed Saminu also qualified for the semifinals, while Isaac Botsio failed to advance after finishing fourth in his heat.

Ghanaian fans will now be hoping Azamati can maintain his speed and move closer to winning a medal.
