Manchester City continued their perfect start to the new Premier League season with an impressive 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Friday night.
Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki both scored twice as City secured their second consecutive league victory and moved onto six points from their opening two matches.
Haaland Opens His Premier League Account
Crystal Palace made a positive start, but Manchester City took the lead in the 17th minute.
Antoine Semenyo delivered a cross into the penalty area, where Haaland rose to send a looping header past Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
It was Haaland’s first Premier League goal of the new campaign.
City had further opportunities before halftime, while Palace also threatened to get themselves back into the contest.
Cherki Takes Control
The visitors doubled their advantage in the 54th minute through Cherki.
The French midfielder produced an excellent individual move, working his way through the Palace defence before finding the net.
Palace responded almost immediately. Yeremy Pino’s free kick struck the crossbar before the ball went in off Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
However, City’s response was quick.
Just three minutes after Palace scored, Cherki grabbed his second goal of the night with a deflected effort to restore City’s two-goal advantage.
Haaland Completes the Rout
Haaland added Manchester City’s fourth goal in the 85th minute after receiving a pass from Phil Foden.
The Norwegian striker fired a powerful left-footed finish into the net to complete his brace and seal a comfortable victory.
The result gives Manchester City six points from their opening two Premier League matches.
City will next face newly promoted Coventry City before preparing for an early-season Manchester derby against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
With Haaland finding his scoring touch and Cherki producing a standout performance, Manchester City’s attack is already showing signs of being difficult to stop this season.
