Kanye West’s planned concerts in Russia have been thrown into uncertainty after the venue scheduled to host the shows said it had not signed an agreement with the event organizers.
Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, was scheduled to perform two concerts at St. Petersburg’s Gazprom Arena on October 10 and 11. The shows attracted major attention after tickets reportedly sold quickly.
However, Gazprom Arena said on August 24 that it had not signed a rental agreement with SAY Agency, the Moscow-based promoter behind the concerts. The venue said the concerts therefore could not take place there.
Promoter Says Concerts Are Still On
Despite the venue’s statement, SAY Agency has pushed back against reports that the shows have been canceled.
The promoter says preparations are continuing and that the concerts have not been called off. According to reports, the agency plans to resolve the contract issue with Gazprom Arena before the deadline later this week.
That leaves fans who purchased tickets waiting for clarity over whether Ye will actually take the stage in St. Petersburg.
Kanye West’s Russia Shows Attract Attention
The planned performances were already generating headlines because Ye would become one of the biggest Western artists to perform in Russia since the country’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The concerts have also drawn controversy because of West’s history of antisemitic and pro-Nazi remarks. The rapper has apologized for some of his past comments, but his recent performances and touring plans continue to attract intense scrutiny.
For now, Kanye West’s October Russia concerts remain in limbo.
The shows have not been officially confirmed as canceled, but Gazprom Arena says they cannot take place there without a rental agreement.
